Veg In A Box is a family run business. We started making fruit and veg boxes up for some friends using local produce from our farmer neighbours and we was surprised at how brilliant they looked (and tasted!).

My first few attempts went really well so I decided to put some pictures up on Facebook. Before I knew it I had lots of interest from friends and family and word of our boxes really began to spread! Our customers really enjoyed the convenience of delivered fresh produce as well as the great feeling of eating yummy local fruit & veg, AND supporting local farmers.

We approached Dart Fresh Produce in Topsham and after seeing what fantastic local produce they offered we decided to use them as a supplier. All these years later we now work with and support a vast number of local farmers and producers. It always has and always will be one of the core values of this business SUPPORT LOCAL!

In addition to our delicious pre-made boxes which you can buy from our website, we also like to offer a totally customised box through our Fitbox box – targeted at the health conscious folk out there. Our boxes cover a wide range of prices so we like to think we can cater for all budgets and if you want to give us a call we can even help to make something bespoke for you.

We also pride ourselves on having a one to one relationship with our customers; keeping the service as personal and tailor-made as possible.

Huxhams Cross Farm is found on the edge of the Dartington Hall Estate near Totnes in Devon. It covers 34 acres of land that was bought by the Biodynamic Land Trust in 2015. The Trust holds land in perpetuity for sustainable food production. The Apricot Centre team are the first tenants of the farm and continue to develop it from a bare collection of 5 fields, that were put down to conventional barley for the last 40 year, to a rich and diverse food producing farm. 

The farm was designed using the permaulture methodolgy, with an aim to produce delicious biodynamic food, vegetables, fruit, eggs, preserves and flour. The farm also supports wildlife biodiversity and has been designed to be low carbon. We are both organic and biodynamic certifed.

In the spring of 2017 we planted over 1000 fruit trees and bushes, 3000 agroforestry trees, established the beginning of the vegetable production, introduce a flock of 130 hens, and welcomed two cows called Damson and Daffodil on to the farm.   

The farm is a learning demonstration of how we weave together the practices of biodynamic food production, permaculture design  and agroforestry to create a beautiful, resilient and sustainable farm.

 Crock & Cole launched just as 2019 was getting going. After 10 years of fomenting the idea, hesitating and being busy with other things, the time came.

The vision is to produce a range of wild fermented products for our local community. We wish to promote and popularise the deliciousness and the health benefits of raw, live fermented foods. We aim to make an artisanal product, which I believe to also be a peasant’s product. To this end, we strive to grow the produce ourselves, sourcing anything else as locally as possible, we use traditional ceramic fermenting vessels, and we embrace the diversity, seasonality and lack of homogeneity of our product.

We are a small business and we believe in the value of small businesses. We only wish to sell our produce locally, and would love to see the flourishing of other small fermenting businesses across the country.

Steepholding is a tiny farm, 9 acres of very mixed land next to the River Tone on the Somerset and Devon border. The nature of the land makes it hugely diverse ecologically, and that in turn has influenced what we grow and rear here, with the aim of enhancing these diverse habitats. The human benefits are that we have created a more traditional mixed farm, which produces a wide variety of delicious food, plants and fuel.

Alex Wilson & Ruth O'Brien, moved with their two children to a caravan in an open field that they called Steepholding in 2014 .

Previously, in Bristol, Ruth was working as a community market gardener in Hartcliffe (HHEAG). She also worked at Windmill Hill City Farm and taught organic gardening and permaculture.

Alex was based at Ragmans Lane Farm, harvesting willow, making apple juice and mushroom logs when they met and became a bicycle mechanic when he moved to Bristol.

In Bristol we were both actively involved in running Bristol Seed Swap and Somewhere Housing Co-op, and members of Bristol Permaculture group.

Helen and Stuart Kearney live at Elder Farm, a five and a half acre organic farm in Devon which is part of the Ecological Land Co-operative's first site in the UK. They have a background in permaculture, cooperatives, organic growing and outdoor education. Helen is a medical herbalist with practices in two nearby towns. They use their plot to grow herbs to make into medicines, soap and other herbal products, and edible and cut flowers.

Elder Farm is a small off grid medicinal herb farm, which is being established using permaculture principles. We offer a range of learning opportunities for visitors from the UK and abroad. Our goal is to reconnect people to sustainable growing methods, and to the amazing healing power of plants.

Oinkers At Drakes Farm opened a Farm Butchery and Shop in October 2017. Our Farm Shop is based at Higher Fingle Farm, Crockernwell, Exeter, EX6 6NP. We sell the finest local produce including meat, poultry, vegetables, eggs, dairy products, chutneys, pies, bread, pasties, cakes, honey, dried goods, pulses & confectionery.


During Covid-19 please feel free to ring and place an order which we can prepare for you to collect at a convenient time. Alternatively, we run a weekly delivery round in the Tedburn St Mary, Cheriton Bishop, Whitestone, Teign Valley and Exeter directions. Our shop is also still open to the public during the Covid-19 outbreak. We have taken various Covid-19 precautions in the shop following government guidelines. These include supplying hand sanitiser on entry to the shop and asking that only 2 customers at a time enter the shop.  

Down Farm is a social enterprise. We are an organic market garden and community hub situated just outside of Winkleigh, North Devon. We grow fantastic vegetables, salads, herbs & fruits, using only hand tools. Our aim is to grow produce that benefits us, our wildlife the soil and our community. ​

We grow using the "no-dig" method meaning we do not invert the soil. We preserve the soil structure by adding compost every year to the top of our growing beds, helping the soil life flourish. A happy soil lets us grow produce that is full of goodness and bags of flavour. ​

Our food is for our community. All our produce is eaten within a 30 mile radius of the farm. We invite our community to be a part of the farm, joining us for events and volunteering at the farm. Keep an eye on our events page for this year's happenings.
