Fingle Woods lies along 10km (6.2 miles) of Dartmoor’s craggy Teign Valley, tucked into the northern fringes of Dartmoor.
Wander through 45km (28 miles) of new trails, take in spectacular views and discover its history. Explore the sun-dappled glades, spot wildlife and uncover intricate woodland archaeology. See if you can spot the iridescent blue of the kingfisher as it darts along the bank of the river Fingle, which gurgles and sparkles on its route through the woods. Listen for the rap of a woodpecker and the splash of an otter. Look for the ever-changing wildflowers, from carpets of ramsons and wood anemone to wild daffodils and bluebells, and discover the magic found here at Fingle.
The site is made up of eight different woods, which we jointly own and manage with the National Trust in the first venture of its kind between us. In one of our largest woodland restoration projects ever, we are nursing it back to health and reclaiming it for nature and people.

There is a high proportion of woodland in the landscape around Cutteridge which sits within a major Ancient Woodland concentration Management access is attained by a rambling minor county road which becomes a stoned access track through Cutteridge Farm and onwards over a large concrete bridge across the A30 Trunk road (high weight limit) to the NE end of the wood. However there is no public vehicular access to the wood and it is approached by footpaths and bridleways. A permissive path network was established around the site as part of the project and a sundial created by a local stonemason was installed at the main entrance as the Millennium Feature. A circular path and two public footpaths cross the site and walkers can enjoy the River Chew that runs along the southern boundary.

A quiet isolated wood located on a sloping site on the edge of Dartmoor. The options for visiting it by car or public transport are limited but the wood is well used by local people. There is access from the road running up the east side of the wood but no other public rights of way cross it. However there are paths within it to allow the visitor to explore.

Cricklepit Mill offers you a place to escape from it all in the very heart of the busy city of Exeter.
