Wheatland Farm is a tranquil haven of 21 acres managed as a nature reserve for your sustainable holiday. The farm has four eco lodges and a cottage, and because we’re not a conventional farm your holiday comes first. You get the space to relax and reconnect. Think Center Parcs without the numbers. Think Featherdown Farms without contrived marketing hype. You’ll find Hot Tubs at two lodges, boats on the biggest pond, fishing, mown paths through the meadows, benches with views, campfire spots, an outdoor chess table and badminton lawn, room for the kids to run off some energy, free bikes to borrow, etc etc.. Wheatland Farm has twice won Visit England’s top award for sustainable tourism.

Car Free Devon Holidays

Without a car you can…

Kayak on the Torridge… walk or cycle parts of the Tarka Trail… get into Exeter for a museum… or the Exe Trail… shop in Bideford or Barnstaple pannier markets… walk a section of the coast path… visit RHS Rosemoor…

‘Is a car free Devon holiday for me?’

We want you to enjoy your Devon holiday. Car-free isn’t necessarily for everyone, and most people still come by car. But you don’t have to! So here’s a few things to consider when deciding whether to bring your vehicle or to try a car free Devon holiday at Wheatland Farm.

Borrow a Bike

At Wheatland Farm eco lodges we have a sizeable and growing collection of ‘farm bikes’, which are all free for you to use on your holiday. We have kids’ and adults’ sizes. They’ve all been rescued from the local recycling centre and refurbished. So they may not be sparkly new, but they are serviceable and fun.

We think bikes are the best way to see this part of Devon – we’ll point you to barely-used back lanes where the grass grows down the middle of the tarmac. On a bike you’ll make enough progress to really experience the landscape, and you’ll have fun (and some exercise) in the process. Most of these cycling routes involve a ‘destination’, such as a pub, teashop or local feature.
