From towering granite tors to breathtaking rivers, Devon's is an ancient landscape that has drawn and inspired our ancestors. The ancient idea of pilgrimage is as much about the personal inner journey as the destination. Devon Pilgrim follows this living tradition.

We invite you to walk these pilgrim routes, some ancient, some new, which connect tors, stone crosses, holy wells and tiny churches, standing stones and cathedral.

Re-root yourself in Devon's landscape and the spiritual traditions which run like a thread through it. Whatever your journey, we invite you to wander with us.

Our Devon Pilgrim routes offer the opportunity to explore pilgrimage across the varied landscape that our county has to offer. Whether its journeying through our rich agricultural land, meandering alongside one of our majestic rivers or taking in the awe inspiring landscape of Dartmoor, each Devon Pilgrim route invites you to wander and wonder through our little piece of Heaven in Devon.

Each route has its own Pilgrim Passport, available in the guidebook or downloadable lower on this page. Some routes pause at each church building along the way where you will find stamps to collect. In each church building you’ll also find a mediation, reflection or invitation to prayer. You are welcome to use these in the church building or take them to use outside in nature or along the way. Or you may simply want to focus on your own experience, or enjoy the time without thinking or doing anything at all. It’s up to you.

The Sacred Waters Way offers a different, more personal experience of pilgrimage. Focusing on the inner journey it needs no passport to travel. You may however wish to collect your stamp as a reminder of your journey from St Mary’s Church in Dartington.

Sacred Waters Way Unlike the more traditional pilgrimage routes which focus on destination or a specific pathway, the Sacred Waters Way offers you a series of individual pilgrimages which guide you through the seasons. Each pilgrimage gives opportunities to pause and reflect on your own inner journey and your connectedness to the earth and her living waters.

Archangel's Way Follow in the footsteps of pilgrims past and present on the Archangel’s Way across the north of Dartmoor, from towering St Michael’s church atop Brentor to St Michael the Archangel’s in Chagford, a bustling market town. Throughout the route there are indications of how man has connected with the unique landscape to live as an interconnected part of it, from the Neolithic stone circles and ancient wells to more recent industrial past. The Archangel’s Way invites you to breathe deep, become more conscious of your spirit and spend some time to re-connect.

St Boniface Way Throughout the pilgrimage route flow the interconnected themes of prayer, work and study. St Boniface would have been familiar with these as they formed the rhythms of his life as a Benedictine monk. Prayer is reflected in the churches visited en route and also by the inclination of the pilgrim as they undertake the pilgrimage. Along the route, the pilgrim will reflect on work especially as they journey past working farm land. Study is represented by the University chapel and in the heart of the pilgrim as they grow in their understanding of God.
