We are also in the Top 10 in the UK for student experience in 2019 and 2020, and we entered the top 10 in the UK for social inclusion in 2020. Why are we ranked so highly? Red Velvet Cinema is a small community cinema for older people particularly those who are lonely and socially isolated. After screening a classic film there is plenty of time for tea & cake and talking about people's memories of the film, the actors and the time in which it was set. Those that come believe they are coming to watch a film but really it's about conversation and companionship. And discussing the films enables people to avoid talking about 'sensitive' subjects which can trigger unwelcome feelings, such as, families, health and belonging. Red Velvet Cinema has definitely brought people together and helped them to feel connected.

Take A Part are experts in socially engaged audience development for contemporary art. Based in Plymouth, we work in areas that have been historically underserved and don’t usually engage in the arts.

Provision of facilities, activities and buildings for the Barne Barton and St Budeaux Communities to help improve the Health, Wellbeing and social welfare of the residents.
Tamar View Community Complex Ltd. came into being due to an announcement by the MoD to vacate and dispose of its surplus stock of Married Quarters on the Barne Barton Estate in Oct 99.
A small number of local residents grouped together with a view to put together a plan to purchase the complex and retain the facilities for the local community; the vision of this group, who went on to become the founding trustees, is to provide a quality family services for the local community whilst at the same time remaining a viable enterprise.
Since those early days the centre has gone from strength to strength.
The organisation generates sufficiant funds to not only meet all its revenue costs but also to invest in the community.

How Transition Plymouth Started
Transition Plymouth started with an open meeting on 19th June 2009 at the Roland Levinsky building of Plymouth University. Transition Network's Ben Bragwyng was an invited guest and guide for our first two meetings along with Plymothians.
Different ways of approaching sustainability were discussed.
The initiative continued to hold monthly open meetings for a year. From its beginning it was an open process trying to work
as horizontally and inclusively as possible, learning to use consensus as a way to take participatory decisions.
