The Old Plymouth Society are a group of like-minded people, from all walks of life and of all ages, who wish to celebrate and enjoy the heritage of this City. We have existed since 1929, but in 1992 we experienced a rebirth, with changes in structure and a greatly increased membership, and became a local history society whose aims are "to promote interest and research into, and the preservation of, the heritage of the City of Plymouth". Since then our activities have expanded to cover a full winter and summer programme.

Plymouth Museums Galleries Archives brings arts, museums, archives and Mount Edgcumbe House and Country Park together to form a regional centre of excellence that explores our understanding of the past and present, and reveals the way Plymouth has shaped and been shaped by the rest of the world.
The service plays a crucial role locally, regionally and nationally in the council’s cultural tourism, economic development, education and community cohesion agendas, and works closely with the city’s culture board, Plymouth Culture.
We operate six sites Plymouth and West Devon Record Office, Mount Edgcumbe House and Country Park, Smeaton’s Tower, the Elizabethan House and the Merchant’s House attract over 150,000 visitors a year.
Plymouth City Museum and Art Gallery is closed so that development work can take place for The Box, Plymouth – a new visitor attraction opening in the heart of the city in 2020! See the museum collections On Tour, or visit the What’s On section as we continue our popular events and exhibitions programme around the city.

The photographs of SWIB number some 200 individual collections and close to one million negatives.
The main photographic collection from SWIB forms part of the Western Morning News (WMN) collection of original plates, negatives and transparencies. The earliest image is dated 1924, with the vast majority being a consistent run from the 1960s through to 2002. The Plymouth and West Devon Record Office (PWDRO) also have part of the WMN collection which you can see and search in their online catalogue.
We also have many other photographic collections, dating back to the 1870s through to the modern day. These collections have been deposited by local businesses and societies, photographers and members of the public either as permanent deposits or donated to the archive to enable scanning work to take place.
In recent years, active encouragement has led to modern day photographs being deposited. This helps to ensure that photographs of the region today will be preserved as archives of the future.

Plymouth Archaeology Society (PAS) consists mainly of amateur members with an enthusiastic interest in a wide range of archaeological disciplines. We wish to share our enthusiasm for archaeology in general and provide better knowledge and support for the abundant local sites in our area.
Visitors are invited to attend any of our regular meetings (coach trips require pre-booking) and we hope you will be tempted to become a full member. PAS is open to all to apply for membership.
P.A.S. organise monthly winter lectures by invited guest speakers. The summer programme consists of visits to local sites of interest. These are usually guided by experts with local knowledge of the site concerned. The summer programme is augmented by coach trips to sites a little further afield. These are usually day trips but can occasionally involve a weekend away.

We are a reflection of who you are, people that care. This rebellion is fueled with LOVE not aggression. We are at a futile time in human existence where information is being withheld from the people by the government about the agonising position we have put the planet in.
