Welcome to the Mid Devon Cycling Club, one of the South West UK’s largest and most active cycling clubs.
Formed in 1930, the club has a rich history and a reputation for producing some of the country’s leading riders including Tour de France riders Colin Lewis and Jeremy Hunt, Yanto Barker and Jonathan Tiernan-Locke.
However the Mid Devon isn’t just about elite competition and the club holds regular club and training rides (at 8 different ability levels), social events and trips to cycling events and sportives. We are a British Cycling registered Go Ride Club and our Club Mark accreditation acknowledges the standards we have met to ensure all our activities are ‘fully inclusive’.

The present church building dates back to the mid 15th century. It consists of a nave with rood screen between the chancel, a tower with six bells, north aisle with Lady Chapel and a south transcept (the Reynell Chapel). The church was restored in 1886. In the Lady chapel are stone slabs which covered the graves of two Abbots of Torre Abbey: William Norton 14th Abbot and Richard Cade 18th Abbot who died in May 1400.
In front of the Chancel step is the burial slab of yet another Abbot of Torre Thomas Dyare the last Abbot who died in 1522. It seems likely that these slabs were sold after the dissolution of the monasteries in 1539. Outside the church there are two halves of an early carved Christian burial stone built into the gables at the east and west end of the north aisle. The inscription is in Latin and reads "CAOCI FILI POPLICI (Caocus Son of Peblig) presumably a local chieftain who was given a Christian burial sometime around the year 500 AD.

The Lustleigh Society was formed in 1978 as a society for lectures on local history. In the years following, much material relating to the history of the village was donated to the society and stored in the village reading room, located in the Church House, an ancient building in the centre of the village. In the mid 1980’s this collection relocated to a small room in the Old Vestry, until 2006 when a larger room within the same building became available. There followed an application to the Heritage Lottery Fund – and other funding bodies – to completely renovate the room to archival storage standard. The archive re-opened in April 2009 having been completely reorganised and re-catalogued. The Archives of Lustleigh provide an important insight into the development of a village situated on the edge of Dartmoor, which has origins in prehistory.

The Parish Church of St John the Baptist, Lustleigh, now a Grade 1 listed building, stands in a graveyard which is roughly oval and which is surrounded by a road. Enclosed graveyards of this type are called ‘lans’ and are well known west of the Tamar and in Wales. There is every reason to suppose that Lustleigh was a fifth or sixth-century Christian graveyard and quite possibly occupied the site of an even earlier pagan place of burial.

Protecting people and the planet through the power of sport and activity…
Young people and adults are more concerned over climate change and its effects on the natural environment than at any other time. At the same time, inactivity and obesity are at record levels.
Our guiding thought, in its simplest form is…
Healthy Planet, Healthy People.
